English: Ayannar Shrine. Madurai, Tamil Nadu

This contemporary shrine is dedicated to Ayannar, a folk deity. The shrine, which is a one-man operation, is located near Madurai. In this sculpture Ayannar (with whip) is riding his horse. The figures below the horse are his companions. In front of the horse is a pair of giant guardians, who are depicted as wrestlers with exercise clubs.
