DescriptionMake up train 2, Maricopa, Arizona (11548533996).jpg
At the height of the Union Pacific meltdown in January 2002, Amtrak halted train 1 at Tucson as freight congestion between that point and Los Angeles was so bad there was no way to when or if train 1 would make it to LA. Passengers from train 1 were bussed to Los Angeles. and the train was turned and stocked at Tucson to become Train 2 the next day. Rather than bus passengers from Los Angeles to Tucson Amtrak elected to use the low level train set that was used to cover some Surfliner schedules and special trains on the west coast. Here we see it departing Maricopa for the 90minute run to Tucson.
