Description

Simplified diagram of a en:4-6-6-4 locomotive with Mallet-style articulation.

Color key:
Blue: Cab
Red: Boiler
Brown: Smokebox
Gray: Wheels (driving wheels are larger)
Black: Wheel framework

The lower diagram shows how the various wheels move when the locomotive enters a curve. The rear driving wheels are fixed in place. The boiler sticks out to one side of the locomotive in a curve.
