Description
English: Market Place, Reading, looking northwards to St. Laurence's Church, c. 1875. On the west side, the entrance to the Corn Exchange with clock above; Nos. 34 and 33 (Salmon and Son, tea and coffee merchants); No. 32; Nos. 31 and 30; No. 29 (Arthur S. Cooper, wine and spirit merchant). On the east side, Nos. 19 and 18 (Elephant Hotel); No. 17 (Frank Cooksey, estate agent); Nos. 16, 15, 14 and 13 (London and County Bank); No. 12 (Morris and Davis, tailors); Nos. 11 and 9 (Sutton and Sons, seedsmen); and No. 7 ("Reading Mercury" offices). Two cabs wait by the Simeon Obelisk, which has a pump and trough in front of it. 1870-1879 glass negative by H. W. Taunt, Box 22 No. 3665.
