  • Glas tube.
  • Original velvet-lined cardboard box with clip.
  • Manufactured in Germany before 1920 by "C. & Cie D.".
  • The numerals are obviously hand-painted.
    They are arranged to be read when held in vertical position.
    This differs from the horizontal arrangement of numerals as displayed in the external link depicting an almost identical model together with its protective casing (see below).
    Both hand-painting and vertical arrangement of numerals indicate an even earlier production date, maybe 1900-1915.
    Note: according to numerous images mercury medical thermometers later displayed numerals that were preferredly arranged for horizontal viewing.
  • Length of glass tube: 126 mm.
  • Image taken in May 2020.

  • Lens: Sony FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS.
  • ISO 1600, shutter speed 1/4s, aperture 11, bias(=expos.comp.) 0.00, 16-bit RAW (.ARW), WB (white balance) 5200K.
  • FOCUS STACK / imaging: tripod; self-timer: 10 sec.; 9 images; rotated focus ring from near to far by 0.5 mm increment after every exposure (0,5 mm experimentally verified as best compromise of image overlap for this lens at aperture=11).
  • Lightroom / .ARW: (a) Preset 003 (Presence+Sharp+NoiseRed) (b) expos.+1.14 (c) small adjustments to presets (d) exported as TIFF/16bit.
  • FOCUS STACK / Zerene Stacker 1.04: stacked 9 TIFF/16bit images, (b) exported as TIFF/16bit.
  • Photoshop / TIFF/16bit: (a) rotated by 0.35 degrees (b) removed remaining dust and sensor specks (c) exported as JPG/max. quality file with embedded colour profile.
