Summary

Description
English: Mortsafes in Cluny kirkyard. Mort-safes were devices designed to physically prevent anatomists and body snatchers from obtaining the corpse. These at Cluny date to the early 1800s and consist of a large granite slab with an iron cage. This was lowered over the coffin until the corpse rotted and was then removed for further use.
