Summary[edit]

This is a copy of an original lithograph by Britton, Rey & Co., San Francisco, titled "Mountain Meadows", obviously referring to the Mountain Meadows Massacre. This piece was engraved by my Great-Grandfather, Henry Steinegger (the "& Co.", who also engraved portraits of James Lick, Henry Wells, and William Fargo, as well as "General Custer's Death Struggle", now in the Library of Congress) in 1877, and is also in the Library of Congress. As an ex-Mormon, I find this to be an interesting artifact of a modern day American cult which has gained mainstream status. The Presidential aspirations of Mitt Romney are eerily reminiscent of the similar aspirations of Joseph Smith.
