Description

Tanque medio M-47 General Patton, con cañón de 90 mm. Empezó a fabricarse en Estados Unidos en 1951, construyéndose 8.576 unidades. El Ejército Español recibió sus 13 unidades iniciales el 12 de febrero de 1954, llegando a operar 495 tanques de este tipo. Entre 1975 y 1980 329 tanques fueron modernizados a la versión M-47E1 y 46 a la versión M-47E2. En España se hicieron famosos porque fueron los tanques que el general Jaime Milans del Bosch sacó a las calles de Valencia durante el intento de golpe de Estado del 23 de febrero de 1981. En 1990 se inició la sustitución de los M-47 aún activos -muchos de ellos serían desguazados- por tanques M-60. En el museo de El Goloso se conservan dos M-47. Uno de ellos -el situado junto a la capilla de La Purísima- todavía funciona, y luce los emblemas del Regimiento de Caballería Ligero Acorazado "Lusitania" nº 8.

The Spanish Army received its initial 13 units on February 12, 1954, reaching 495 tanks of this type. Between 1975 and 1980, 329 tanks were upgraded to version M-47E1 and 46 to version M-47E2. In Spain became famous because they were the tanks that General Jaime Milans del Bosch took to the streets of Valencia during the attempted coup of February 23, 1981. In 1990 began replacing the M-47 still active -many of them were scrapped- by M-60 tanks. In the museum of El Goloso there are conserved two M-47. One of them, the next to the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, still works, and looks the emblems of the Light Armored Cavalry Regiment "Lusitania" No. 8.
