English: The saga of Ayr Station, an integral part of the Station Hotel, entered a new phase of concern after two cases of arson during 2023. The September fire led to the closure of the station, cancellation of all rail services between Prestwick and Stranraer and serious town centre congestion on nearby roads. It’s difficult to see how the old Category B listed hotel building can be saved with an absentee owner having shown little interest over many years.
