Description |
Sculpture by Nancy Davidson, Hive (fabric, LED, blowers, electronic wiring, fabric, computer, 222” x 144” x 144”, 2020, Krannert Art Museum). The image illustrates a distinctive body of Nancy Davidson's work in the later 2010s, when she added commissioned, large-scale installation art to her repertoire. The pictured immersive environment, Hive, features Davidson's soft, pink and rounded inflatable sculptures, which fill and contrast with the hard, angular qualities of a postmodern-style pavilion in the exhibition space. The work also incorporated a soundscape—abstract sound vocalizations of breath, including inhales, sighs and hums—and programmed patterns of flashing light in the internally lit sculptures. This work and others in this series have been publicly exhibited in prominent venues and discussed in major art and daily press publications. |
