Summary

Description
English: The New Monthly Magazine for February 1, 1816 (volume V, issue No. 25). Composite image showing masthead from front of the issue and below that a scan of page 66. The relative space given to the notices of "NOVELS, TALES, &C." in the first column illustrates how much claim to literary merit Jane Austen's works had in the judgement of at least some of her contemporaries. Headlong Hall by Thomas Love Peacock and Tales of Fancy: The Shipwreck by S.H. Burney are the only two to receive actual reviews.
