Summary

Description
English: Norma Cantú and David Richards

On Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, the LBJ Presidential Library’s Future Forum held a discussion about gerrymandering and voter ID. The conversation explored the ever-changing Texas and federal legal battles over election issues, including the social, political, and legal implications. The discussion also touched upon the Trump administration’s influence on some of the legal cases and issues. The participants included Norma Cantú, professor of law and education at The University of Texas at Austin; Ernest Herrera, staff attorney at MALDEF; Eric Opiela, an election law attorney in Austin; and David Richards, a voting rights attorney with the Austin law firm of Richards Rodriguez & Skeith. The conversation was moderated by Jim Henson, director of the Texas Politics Project at UT Austin.
