English: Northwich Locomotive Depot, with an ex-Great Central 'Director' 4-4-0,
Ex-GC Robinson D10 'Director' 4-4-0 No. 2652 'Edwin A. Beazley' stands beside a water-column. In 1947 Northwich Depot, situated next to the Cheshire Lines (CLC) station, had an allocation of 32 locomotives (all LNER). After Nationalisation it was taken over by the London Midland Region (Longsight Division, coded 9G) and in 1954 its allocation comprised 21 LMS and 13 LNE locomotives. It closed to steam on 4/3/68 but serviced diesel locomotives until 1987. The 'Directors' had formerly worked expresses on the Great Central main lines, but by 1947 were relegated to secondary services, such as Manchester (Central) - Chester (Northgate).
