This Tunnel exisits on railway section of the Kalka-Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, the state of Gods. This 1143.61 meter long tunnel passes through sandstone mountain and was India's second longest rail tunnel for a long time. It was constructed under Chief Engineer H.S. Harrington's supervison guided by a local sage, Bhalku, in a short period from July 1900 to September 1903 at a cost 8.40 Lakh rupees (Rupees 840,000). This station is named after the English Engineer Barog who had commenced digging the tunnel from both sides of the mountain but could not complete it. The English Government fined Barog one Rupee, but he could not bear the enbarresment and hence committed suicide. (he was buried near the site of the tunnel). His failed tunnel is situated about a kilometer away.
