English: Observatory Tower. On the south eastern side of the castle bailey, the Observatory Tower stands on a mound about 40 feet high. The lower part is Norman with a 14th century addition, but the circular turret was added in the 19th century for a governor of the gaol who indulged his interest in astronomy - hence the name 'Observatory Tower'.
