Summary

Description
English: Given the black arm-bands worn by all present, it is most likely that the photograph was taken to mark the death of Queen Victorian (who died on 22 January 1901). Given that Lieutenant Stanley Spencer Reid, standing at the far left of the back row was killed in action on 22 June 1901, it is certain that the photograph was taken in 1901, at sometime between 7 March 1901 (the date of Reid’s promotion to Lieutenant) and his death. If it was taken in South Africa, it could not have been taken before 29 April 1901, the date that Reid returned to South Africa.
