Summary

Description

The Great American Solar Eclipse took place on Aug. 21, 2017. It was the first time in 99 years that a path of totality, about 70 miles wide, could be viewed in the U.S. from coast to coast, from Oregon to South Carolina. Nashville, Tennessee, was in the path of totality, but at first, clouds threatened to block the spectacle. But the clouds cleared in time for this amazing view of the total solar eclipse. Find out more about the solar eclipse in NSF's Solar Science special report.
