[edit]As the spine is, in effect, nothing more than a horizontal compression of a small amount of the image, with a dark gradient parallel to it, the 3D is so de minimus to not matter. Further, this is obviously a [[threshold of originality|mechanical, place-book-on-scanner-and-hit-start scan of a book (compare this scan). As Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp. explicitly makes clear: "...a person who makes a photograph merely by placing a drawing or painting on the glass of a photocopying machine and pressing the button gets no copyright at all; but he might get a copyright if he employed skill and labour in assembling the thing to be photocopied..." As such, this is:
This image is in the public domain because under the Copyright law of the United States, originality of expression is necessary for copyright protection, and a mere photograph of an out-of-copyright two-dimensional work may not be protected under American copyright law. The official position of the Wikimedia Foundation is that all reproductions of public domain works should be considered to be in the public domain regardless of their country of origin (even in countries where mere labor is enough to make a reproduction eligible for protection). | ||||
