Image owned by John Bates, (banjoseth) taken by deceased relative. Portrait by J. Harvey Young of Elizabeth Snow (Ober) Merrill, great-grandmother of image owner. Piano is by Chickering, circa 1829. An exact twin is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, identical down to the shape of the legs and lyre. The small photo is of Frederic Arnold Merrill, Mrs. Merrill's son, Williams Class of 1913, a WWI naval officer who married Helen Parsons of New York, Charleston and Kennebunk and was employed by Standard Oil of New York.
