  • Note the squatting figure is the same pose as the foreground figure in When Will You Marry?
  • Note the foreground woman is carrying a wolf cub, as in Gauguin's ceramic work Oviri
  • The authenticity of this painting is disputed by Field (p. 346). Taylor concurs, describing the painting as a dubious pastiche of Gauguin's Oviri theme with the Hermitage version, and moreover not known before 1923 (p.1 n. 1).
