Summary

Description
English: Postcard of Pegu Club on Kemmendine Road in Rangoon (now Yangon).
The Pegu Club was established during the British colonial rule. When the British Empire expanded, the colonists brought more than a slice of their culture to the areas they conquered. The Pegu Club of the former capital Rangoon was set up to offer British people a relaxing environment, far from home and the people they ruled. The Pegu Club is said to have inspired a drink, the Pegu Club Cocktail (recipe in link below), based on the perennial colonial favorites: gin and Rose's Lime Juice. The British may have left, but the drinks often remain as staples in the clubs for the new members.
