Italiano: Pietro da Eboli (XIII secolo) "De Balneis Puteolanis". Miniatura del Codice Angelico Ms. 1474 (Biblioteca Angelica di Roma), che mostra il "Balneum Tripergulae", nel medioevo indicato per tutti coloro che si sentivano debilitati, per chi accusava disturbi allo stomaco o alla mente. Vien detto consistere in due stanze in una delle quali ci si spoglia mentre nell'altra ci si cura. Poiché il bagno si trovava vicino al Lago d'Averno ritenuto dagli antichi l'ingresso agli inferi, la miniatura mostra anche Gesù Cristo che, dopo esser morto, discese nel soggiorno dei morti per tre giorni, per infrangere le porte dell'Ade, prima di risorgere. Il Balneum Tripergulae (il cui nome deriva dal vicino villaggio di Tripergola), è stato irrimediabilmente distrutto o sepolto dall'eruzione del Monte Nuovo avvenuta il 29 settembre 1538. |
