Description
English: A post-Medieval double-sided copper-alloy coin weight for a Portuguese escudo, also known as a quarter joe, worth 9 shillings at the time. The weight was in use from some time after 1740 until certainly 1772, and possibly a bit beyond that.
Obverse: 9/SHILLS/W within a beaded circular border.
Reverse: Two concentric beaded circles.
Diameter: 18.0mm; weight: 2.96g (45.8 grains).
Its number in British Coin-Weights is W.1793h.
