Captions

Dependence of propulsion efficiency (η) upon the vehicle speed/exhaust velocity ratio (v/vₑ) for air-breathing jet & rocket engines. Efficiency increases as vₑ approaches v, maxing at vₑ= v (v/vₑ=1) as this gives the smallest residual kinetic energy.
