English: Raw reality (data points), trend reality (best-fit curve, peak-and-valley-laden), and a cognitive model of reality (continuous graph reduced to quantum states). Whenever continuous data is discretized, there is always some amount of discretization error. The goal is to reduce the amount to a negligible level. What constitutes negligibility depends on which part of the elephant you are groping. |
