Notes

Richard Pate (or Pates) was one of the most influential men in Gloucester in the sixteenth century and represented Gloucester in Parliament on several occasions. He endowed his college (Corpus Christi, Oxford) with property on condition that three-quarters of the income would go towards the founding and upkeep of a school in Cheltenham and an almshouse.

He also made a number of bequests to Gloucester.
