DescriptionRodrigues night heron restoration (transparent).png
Life restoration of the Rodrigues night heron (Nycticorax megacephalus), feeding on a Rodrigues day gecko (Phelsuma edwardnewtoni). Based on figures of specimens[1] and related, living genera, with colouration pattern inspired by that shown by palaeontologist Julian P. Hume[2], which is itself inspired by the pattern described for the related Réunion night heron. Hume accordingly suggested that the Mascarene herons retained their juvenile plumage into adulthood.[3] Hachisuka also noted that it may have been compared to bitterns due to such a colouration.[4]
