Rose Beuret fut la compagne de toute la vie de Rodin, qui ne l’épousa que quelques semaines avant sa mort, en 1917. Simple blanchisseuse originaire de Champagne, elle rencontra Rodin lorsque celui-ci travaillait au fronton du théâtre des Gobelins, en 1864, à Paris. Elle donna naissance à un fils, Auguste, lui servit de modèle (Mignon, Bellone, L’Alsacienne), et à l’occasion, de garçon d’atelier, prenant soin des terres et des plâtres durant les absences du sculpteur...
