| Description | Description: T-55LD and Ural truck at the South African National Museum of Military History, Johannesburg. Note: the tank was designated "T-55LD" by the museum according to stamped markings on the turret ("D", indicating the turret mark) and front glacis plate ("L", indicating the hull mark). Manufacturer's description indicates source of origin as being Bumar-Łabędy Works, Poland, 1975. Sources disagree on whether this particular tank was a new T-55 manufactured in Poland around 1975 or an older, reconverted T-54 simply remanufactured in 1975; additionally, it is possible that the turret and chassis came from two separate tanks manufactured at different dates. The T-55LD may have been a T-54 tank rebuilt to T-55A (Polish designation: T-55L) standards, or simply a new T-55A/T-55L. |
