Summary

Swindon Marlborough & Andover Railway Single Fairlie 0-4-4T of 1878. This was the first British locomotive to be fitted with Walschaert's valve gear, this valve gear was not used again on a British loco until the 1890s, the plate resting on the running plate has the inscription "Fairlie's Patent". This is the only known picture of this locomotive and is thought to date from about 1880
