Saint Brigid Church 2151 Van Ness Avenue at Broadway Built 1902 The following is excerpted from San Francisco Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 110-05, which was approved on 11 February 2005. We have omitted some of the WHEREAS'es and edited others for brevity:

WHEREAS, St. Brigid Church is a cultural and architectural anchor for the Marina, Pacific Heights and Russian Hill neighborhoods; and,

WHEREAS, St. Brigid Church survived both the 1906 and 1989 earthquakes and reopened only seven months after the great earthquake and fire of 1906 to serve the community as a refuge and place of solace; and,

WHEREAS, St. Brigid Church is a repository for numerous treasures including an exceptional pipe organ constructed specifically for the church by the Italian firm of Fratelli Ruffatti, stained glass from Harry Clarke Studios in Dublin, and statuary by the noted Irish sculptor Seamus Murphy; and,

WHEREAS, St. Brigid Church was determined to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places in October 1995; and,

WHEREAS, St. Brigid Church was included in the Here Today survey of historic properties, adopted by the Board of Supervisors in 1970; and,

WHEREAS, St. Brigid Church is a perfectly preserved example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture designed by Shea & Shea and Henry A. Minton; and

WHEREAS, St. Brigid Church is an example of unique methods of construction having used San Francisco curbstones and crossing stones in the construction of its facade; and,

WHEREAS, St. Brigid Church has been important to San Francisco's Irish community; and,

WHEREAS, San Francisco Mayor George Moscone received the sacraments in St. Brigid Church, attended St Brigid School, and was a life-long parishioner; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the San Francisco Board of Supervisors does hereby initiate the designation of St. Brigid Church as a landmark and so directs the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board to place the property in consideration as a landmark....
