English: Bangpu Recreation Centre, or “Bangpu” in short, is situated at 164 Moo 2, Sukhumvit road, Bangpu Mai subdistrict, Muang district, SamutPrakan. Covering a total area of approximately 639 rai, it is on the Gulf of Thailand along the 2-kilometre coastline. The centre was established in 1939, during tenure of Field Marshall Por Phibunsongkhram, to provide rehabilitation facilities for injured soldiers.Within the centre are a ballroom, Nang Nuan cafeteria, Suk Ta bridge, SalaSukjai restaurant, all of which are administered by Recreation Facilities Division, Quater master Department, the Royal Thai Army.
One of significant features of the centre is an unspoiled mangrove forest with biodiversity. The beach containing dark color mud is beneficial to marine creatures, e.g. shrimps, shells, crabs, and mudskippers. It is notable that each year in the winter season over 5,000 seagulls will migrate from Siberia. It is also a natural habitat of more than 200 bird species.
Currently, the Royal Thai Army has established the Bangpu Nature Education Centre in commemoration of the 72nd birthday anniversary of H.M. Queen Sirikit.
