Summary

Description
English: One of the most deeply revered statues in the Philippines, the "Statue of Santo Niño", (Spanish for Holy Child), has been safely returned to Cebu City, P.I., where it was first brought a gift by Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. Made entirely of gold, except for the face, the sacred image was carried away to the King of Spain as booty in 1575, then mysteriously returned to Cebu City. Father McHugh, left, Irish Father, and Father Moran, right, Spanish Augustin Priest, standing next to statue, hid the statue in the hills throughout the Japanese occupation of Cebu Island. Filipinos of the island plan a huge festival to commemorate the statue's preservation. 4/3/45 Signal Corps Photo #SWPA-SigC-45-13865 (Tec 5 George Arend), released by PRD 1/3/47.
