Rationale for the fair use of this image in the articles Sharon Tate and Jay Sebring:

No free or public domain images have been located to illustrate the subjects, Sharon Tate and Jay Sebring, in this context.

The screenshot is intended to represent them in a candid shot. This is important because most photographs published of Tate are professional photographs of her at work. Also other victims of this crime are often not as well illustrated or as thoroughly depicted as Tate, and the article needs to make it clear that Tate was one of 7 people murdered over the course of two nights. The image of Sebring is important in an article about Tate due to the closeness of their relationship and for the fact that he was murdered in the act of attempting to defend her. The same rationale applies to the inclusion of an image of Tate in the Sebring article.

Images whose copyright are held by The Estate of Sharon Tate/Debra Tate are readily available on numerous websites. Tate's official site says "Sharon Tate's name, image, likeness, signature and voice is controlled by Debra Tate. Please contact us if you feel there's misuse of Sharon Tate's image. Misuse would be: other sites profiting from Sharon's image or displaying her in such a way that would be offensive to Sharon's family, friends and fans."

The use of the image is for informational purposes only, is of a low resolution, and does not detract from the original. Its use is not for profit and is not considered to be offensive as per the policy stated above, however this particular image is not displayed on the official site. Use of this image on Wikipedia should therefore not be considered as "misuse" by the definition stated on Tate's official website.

As both Sharon Tate and Jay Sebring are deceased, it is not possible to create new images of them, and to date no public domain photographs have been located of either of them.
