| Description |
English: Created in August of 1942, the poster was placed at gas stations to remind Americans of the human cost of the oil, as many sailors were killed on oil tankers that transported fuel to those gas stations. The image shows the burning R.P. Resor which was torpedoed in February of 1942 off the coast of New Jersey. German submarines wrought havoc on US coastal trade, requiring the US Government to encourage limits on fuel consumption. |
