Summary

Description	English: D.H. Souter (Australian, 1862-1935) "Mermaid With Companion", 1907. Watercolour, 38 x 56.5cm. Souter was a well-known illustrator, working in the first part of the 20th century. He was famous for his cat illustrations. The sea was an inspiration to Souter, who was a keen surfer at Bondi Beach in Sydney, where he painted a series of beach murals for the Bondi Lifesaving Club. These murals are now housed at the Australian National Maritime Museum.
