DescriptionSt. Mary's Church of Ireland, Drogheda - geograph.org.uk - 594471.jpg
English: St. Mary's Church of Ireland, Drogheda Described in 'Buildings of Ireland: N. Leinster' as a simple three-bay hall and three-stage tower with pinnacles and needles spire. Erected 1807 on the site of the medieval parish church of St. Mary and the Carmelite Friary founded between 1272 and 1307. The extensive graveyard is in the SE angle of the town wall which still survives close to full height along the south side. It was through this churchyard that Cromwell made his successful breach on 9th September 1649. The church building is now closed for worship and is in private ownership but the graveyard is still in use.
