DescriptionSt Michael's church - geograph.org.uk - 1300908.jpg
English: St Michael's church. St Michael's church is hemmed in by houses from all sides > 1300902 and difficult to reach. Although its tower can occasionally be glimpsed over roofs and through trees, there is only a narrow driveway > 1300904 and a short section of path leading to it. The churchyard contains a number of interesting old headstones and the remains of an ancient stone cross > 1300916 are situated right in front of the south porch > 1300909 which dates from the 15th century. The main body of the church > 1300908 was built a century earlier and the chancel wall contains lumps of carstone. The church interior > 1300927 - 1300941 was extensively restored by the architect G.E. Pritchett in the mid-19th century. It was during this time that the stained glass was put in many of the windows. According to the Norfolk churches website, St Michael's contains probably the best collection of late 19th and early 20th century glass of any small church in East Anglia > 1300958 - 1300968 - 1300974. Most of the stained glass windows were made in the workshop of the O'Connors and there is work by Robert Bayne and Christopher Webb. The originally square font has been cut at some state to form an octagon, ruining some of the carving > 1301005 - 1301020. The rood screen > 1300931 is also largely original albeit restored and covered with dark varnish. There is a three figure brass > 1301039 on the west tower wall which dates from 1623 and features Agnes Brigge and her parents. This church is kept locked but a key is available on request. http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/ingoldisthorpe/ingoldisthorpe.htm
