English: Staircase balustrade in the main entry foyer of the Southgate-Lewis House [1]. R.C. Lambie (the builder) was famous for his elaborate woodwork and this balustrade is a very good example. The State of Texas 70th Legislature declared that this is "one of the finest staircases in all of Austin."[2] This photo was taken in June of 2021, and as can be seen, the balustrade has been stained a darker color, when compared to the photograph taken directly following the restoration, circa 1980.. In keeping with its objective, the W.H. Passon Society has adorned the walls of the staircase with photographs which document important records of African-American life, history, and culture.
