Summary

Description The Stearman Hammond Y aircraft was produced to compete in a "Safe Aircraft" competition in January 1939. It was the winner of the $700 prize which was sponsored by the Department of Commerce. The model Y used many of the safety features the NACA's Fred Weick developed for his W-1 aircraft.
