Summary

  • Deutsch: Älteste bekannte Darstellung der Stadt Zug aus der eidgenössischen Chronik von Johannes Stumpf (1547/48), 13,2 x 17 cm. Die Vorlage für den Holzschnitt stammt wahrscheinlich vom Zürcher Maler Hans Asper. Auf der geosteten Darstellung lassen sich die drei Ausbaustufen der spätmittelalterlichen Stadt anhand der drei Mauerringe erkennen, wobei die älteste Ummauerrung größtenteils mit Häusern überbaut wurde. Am linken Bildrand sieht man das Baarertor, am rechten das Oberwilertor. Beide Tore wurden im 19. Jahrhundert abgerissen. Die Verbindungslinie zwischen den beiden Toren über die heutige Neugasse, den Kolinplatz und die St.-Oswalds-Gasse bildete damals die Hauptgasse der Stadt. Die vier Rundtürme an der Bergseite – Kapuzinerturm, Knopfliturm, Huwilerturm und Pulverturm – sowie Teile der dritten Stadtmauer bestehen noch heute.
