DescriptionSummit of Mount Brandon in the cloud - geograph.org.uk - 219270.jpg
English: Summit of Mount Brandon in the cloud. At 925m high Mt Brandon (Cnoc Breannain) is the 4th highest in Ireland. On the left is an iron cross stuck in the remains of Teampaillin Bhreanainn. It is said that St Brendan, a 6th century holy man, spent lengthy hours of prayer here. In the centre is the trig point and to the right a cairn. Mt Brandon has long been the site of religious pilgrimages, from the Celts celebrating the harvest festival (Lughnasa) to modern day masses held on the mountain peak, weather permitting. (Climbing Brandon by Chet Raymo gives an interesting perspective on Mt Brandon and religion)
