| Description |
English: The Claremont Apartments, 144 Claremont Avenue at Bird Avenue, Buffalo, New York, March 2022. Opened to tenants in late 1911, this three-and-a-half-story brick apartment block sports Colonial Revival stylistic details that are relatively streamlined and spartan yet no less interesting: the round arches framing the entrance and the cut-stone quoins demarcating the corner of the building are the most eye-catching decorative elements, but even more interesting are the projecting keystones that appear at the crowns of entrance arches as well as at the center of the splayed lintels above the windows. Note also the stylized Doric pilaster strips at the entrances. The Claremont contains 17 six- and seven-room units and is a contributing property to the NRHP-listed Elmwood West Historic District. |
