Description
English: The Hawarden located at 1419 R Street, NW in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The Queen Anne/Romanesque Revival building was designed by noted architect George S. Cooper and built in 1901. It was named after Hawarden Castle, a country estate owned by William Ewart Gladstone. Located next door is the Hawarden's "twin", the Gladstone, built in 1900. Both buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and are contributing properties to the Greater Fourteenth Street Historic District.
