English: The Undercliff. The strata dip towards the north-west along this coast. The layer of grey stone to our right seen here at sea level is the same as that appearing 10 metres above us in this picture 1378563 taken a few hundred metres to the east. Above that browner rocks occur, all different strata (Wessex and Vectis formations) of the Wealden Beds. Further north-west the occur underneath the chalk, below sea level, having been laid down before the chalk about 80-130 million years ago. The chalk is merely 60 million years old.
