DescriptionTiffany Ceiling at Marshall Field’s -1907- ~ Chicago Il (51098425897).jpg
The amazing Tiffany Ceiling at Marshall Field’s was installed in 1907. It was commissioned by John Shedd and the design was created by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The ceiling stretches over 6000 square feet and is comprised of over 1.6 million pieces of “favrile” glass. The term “favrile” was coined by Tiffany from the English word “fabrile” meaning “handcrafted”. This process mixes several colors of glass while they are still hot.
