English: Toehold mediated strand displacement is initiated through hybridization of the toehold regions from the invading strand (domain 3) and the original strand (complementary domain 3*). After initial binding, domain 2 from the invading strand undergoes branch migration, replacing the initial hybridized strand. At the completion of branch migration, a new strand is formed and the leaving strand is released giving rise to a new round of toehold mediated strand displacement.
