Description 3-cent 1851 series United States postage stamp, imperforate, depicting the first US president, George Washington. A 3-cent stamp was sufficient cover postage up to 3,000 miles (if prepaid). If not prepaid, a 5-cent stamp was required. This stamp was printed by Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co.
