English: Pacific canoe prow. This bow is a frigate bird. It is secured with ligatures to the front of the canoe. It has a protective function. Its acquisition is inserted into a secondary ritual "maki" (grades hierarchy).
Population : Vao Island (Malekula) in Vanuatu.
Size : 80 x 13 x 16 cm

Français : Proue de pirogue océanienne. Cette proue représente un oiseau frégate. Elle est fixée à l'aide de ligatures à l'avant de la pirogue. Elle a une fonction de protection. Son acquisition est insérée dans un rituel secondaire de "maki" (hiérarchie des grades).
