Nederlands: Het handvat is plat en van been gemaakt.
In het handvat is een ijzeren blad ingelaten. De snede is licht bolvormig, de zijkanten zijn hol. Met deze mesjes flensen de vrouwen de zeehonden, schrapen het vet van de huid en doen allerlei huishoudelijk werk. Zo worden de messen ook gebruikt bij het naaien van kleding uit rendier- en zeehondenbont. Iedere vrouw bezit één of meer vrouwenmesjes. Deze mesjes worden door de mannen gemaakt. Vrouwenmessen zijn nog steeds in gebruik, zij het dan in moderne vorm. |
